Boswell Votes to Protect Comprehensive Health Services for Iowa's Women

Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell voted to protect comprehensive health care services for women and to prevent tax increases on women and small businesses.

"During the 111th Congress, we made it illegal for insurance companies to charge a woman a higher premium just because she is female, and we did this because to do anything else is blatant discrimination," Boswell said. "I voted against H.R. 3 today because this bill circumvents the very discrimination we stopped, and directs the Internal Revenue Service to tax a woman based on her health needs and desire to purchase comprehensive health insurance. This is not about spending taxpayer dollars on abortion. This is about forcing a woman to pay a fine for choosing an insurance plan that would cover the procedure and taxing small businesses for offering such a plan. We should be focused on making abortion less necessary, not more dangerous and difficult."
